What does a Circuit Court Judge do?

The Circuit Court has jurisdiction over serious criminal and civil cases and may also hear appeals from the District Courts. Circuit Court judges are initially nominated by a special judicial commission and appointed by the Governor. At the end of their one-year appointed term, Circuit Court judges must run for reelection for a full 15-year term. It is not unusual for incumbent judges to run together, also know as a slate.
